Midjourney Acquires Astrology App Co–Star

Midjourney has acquired personalized astrology app Co–Star as the generative AI company prepares to expand beyond its web and Discord-based services.

The financial terms were not disclosed. The acquisition reportedly closed during the spring of 2026.

Co–Star team joins Midjourney

Co–Star’s team of approximately 24 employees has joined Midjourney as part of the deal.

Founder Banu Guler will continue leading Co–Star while also becoming Midjourney’s chief design officer. The astrology app will remain available as a separate product.

Co–Star provides personalized horoscopes and compatibility features using a combination of astrological data, human-written content and artificial intelligence.

Standalone apps planned

Midjourney CEO David Holz said Guler and her team will help the company develop its first consumer applications.

One of the planned products is a standalone image-generation app. Midjourney currently provides access to its models primarily through its website and Discord, which can be less accessible to mainstream users than a conventional mobile or desktop app.

Co–Star’s experience in building a widely used consumer platform could help Midjourney improve onboarding, interface design and user engagement.

Expansion beyond image generation

The acquisition reflects Midjourney’s broader effort to develop new products around its generative AI technology.

Rather than acquiring Co–Star for its astrology features, Midjourney appears primarily interested in the company’s product-design expertise and experience operating a consumer subscription app.

The deal could help Midjourney reach a wider audience as competition increases among AI image and video platforms. Its success will depend on whether the company can translate the creative capabilities of its models into simpler standalone products for everyday users.
